Today was all up's and down's. To put it in perspective, I told Carlin that I would like to stop at the next "straight stretch" to use the little lady's forest, and well.... 20km later I finally got to pee. Stopping going uphill is just not worth it and stopping going down hill ...well, that is just silly! Anyway we conquered the hills and enjoyed a lovely dinner in Barry's Bay and then camped in the city park and slept like babies! | Today was one of my favourite rides so far. We travelled through Algonquin Park! This was my first visit in 6 consecutive years to Algonquin that I didn't see a moose! So I am dedicating this blog, to all the amazing animals that we HAVE seen so far on our trip. So far we have been privileged to see a total of 6 black bear! On three different occasions, an adult bear crossed the road infront of us. One very special citing was when 3 black bear cubs caught our attention as they bounded and played around their mother at the tree line, as we carefully past on the highway! We got an "air show" one day, while resting on a bench over-looking lake Superior. A bald eagle and a large hawk danced in the sky above us. I don't know about Carlin, but chase-scene music played in my head as these large birds of prey ducked and dodged around one another. It was hard to tell who was chasing who, until all of a sudden the eagle made slight contact with the hawk and a small object dropped from the hawk's talons. The object fell like a rock toward the ground below and immediatly the bald eagle dove - within seconds snatching up the falling fish and swooping upward to avoid the treetops. AMAZING! The hawk on the other hand was less impressed... My favourite animal citing to date was when I was leading us down a straight stretch on a less busy highway. Out of the ditch, no more then a meter in front of me, a skinny, scraggly coyote bunded out onto the highway! It seemed just as surprised to see us as we were to see it. He or she began running in front of us, looking back but remaining directly in front of my tire, bouncing up our side of the highway for quite some time. Eventually the cute little thing bounced his/her way into the ditch on the other side, so we thanked him/her for the entertainment and continued on our way. |
