Right: We think Quebec City should be recognized for cool hats! | We were filled with energy and giggles this morning in anticipation of spending a whole 24 hours in Old Quebec City. Before we jumped on our bikes, I began researching a place to stay that would allow us to walk around the city freely, (without having to worry about our bikes and equipment). I looked up Warm Showers, Couch Surfers, Hostels, B&B`s... without much luck. We decided to get there and then figure it all out! The ride was good and although overcast, our positive spirits brightened the day. It seemed to take forever to get there... but finally we were on the outskirts. We sat outside on a bench, researching more hostels and learning that the cheapest one in the area we wanted was going to be $90. We decided to try hotwire.com - SUCCESS! We were able to get an amazing hotel room right downtown old Quebec City for $77! We were thrilled! Only 5km to get to our hotel - piece of cake! ... so we thought. There was only one high hill, thus far on this entire journey, that defeated us (made us dismount and walk up) - that hill was in Quebec City. WOW! But it was all worth it because on the other side of that massive, steep hill was... We were speechless as weaved through the cobble stone streets towered by larger then life castles and bridges - full of pedestrians, horse & carriages, and modern day cars (which looked out of place). Glistening with reflections from the past, our eyes scanned out the shops, museums, churches, and restaurants that we would return to on foot later! When we arrived at our hotel in the midst of this wonderland, we were thrilled with our decision! There was a special spot for our bikes, they took care of our laundry and we were shown to our room, complete with shower, bed, bar-fridge and TV! Of course we tuned into an English station as we unpacked out belongings, showered and got ready to roam! We walked the streets and gasped at the buildings. We entered several cathedrals, climbed some bridges and admired the horses. This continued well into the evening, until we agreed on a fabulous restaurant and savored the tastes, smells, and atmosphere of Quebec City. |
